| Christmas 1982 I spent in St. Johann in Tirol with Jan Petersen, my first climbing partner in the Alps. Our primary challenge was to run the many cross-country ski runs around this town, but our interest in the mountains was never disowned. St. Johann is situated right at the foot of Kitzbüheler Horn, normally a quite easy mountain - at least in summertime. But in wintertime it is a quite challenging mountain, and after a few days in the shadow of this mountain it was obvious that we came on the idea: Maybe we could make a winter ascent of Kitzbüheler Horn? |
