In autumn 1983 I had planned to spend a week with my German climbing partner Joachim Schneider and his father Erich in the Dolomites, but a sudden change to winter weather with snowfall down to 1300m made it necessary for us to escape from this place. We ended up in the Patznaun valley in Tirol, which surprisingly enough had cold and clear back weather, calling us to the mountains. And after a minor epic on Geißspitze in Verwall, we were ready to go for the higher mountains in Silvretta. |
