On the way back home from my first Nepal trip in 1988, we had to stay a day and a half in Karachi before we could continue by plane to Copenhagen. This extra stay gave a welcome opportunity to have a short insight in this the largest city of Pakistan. Therefore we hired a taxi for half a day and asked the driver to show what was worth visiting in the city, One of the first places we visited was the mausoleum for Pakistan's first president Quaid-e-Azam, an impressive marble building adorned with copper and onyx, and with furniture in silver and gold. |
