| After having spent a few days in the Bernese Alps during the summer of 1997, and still only had climbed a single mountain in spite of quite good weather, we, this means Rune and I, continued further south, to make an attempt on Gran Paradiso here. Most of the plus-4000 metre mountains in the Alps are concentrated in three groups, but three of them: Piz Bernina, Barre des Ecrins and Gran Paradiso, are a bit out of the way, And since Gran Paradiso was the only one of them I was still missing, we had to make a flying visit to Italy. |
