| It is my impression that I've always been ready for physical challenges. Thus it can hardly be seen as a surprise, that when I in July 1991 held my summer holiday in Zinal noticed a poster, which was advertising for the mountain race La Course des cinq 4000. I had read about this mountain race in a book about the mountains there, and as the race was to take place a few weeks later and I still would be in Zinal at that time I went to the post office to enter that race before I later that day with my climbing companion Christoph walked up the mountains again. The aim was this time Zinalrothorn, but after having climbed up the difficult Rothorngrat I fell off the mountain with a large boulder which turned out to be lose. We were saved by a helicopter and I then had several days on the hospital in Visp. When I after the discharge could return to Zinal there was only a few days before I should run this famous race. |
